Joe Schumacher Bio
Music has been a significant part of my life for many years. I started out on Electric Bass twenty years ago and I soon moved to Double Bass, I have played both ever since. Over the years I have performed in rock bands, small jazz combos, symphony orchestras, blues and funk bands, symphonic bands, jazz big bands, and jazz choirs.
In 2008 I accepted a job teaching orchestra at Leavitt M.S. in Las Vegas, NV. After teaching there for four years, I decided a move back to the Northwest was in order. In 2012 I took over the orchestra program at Issaquah Middle School in Issaquah, WA.Since I have been there I have maintained a program of over 130 Orchestra students, started a fiddle ensemble and taken my students to various competitive events consistently receiving superior ratings. Over the last year I have been working on composing music for my Middle school groups and starting a music lessons studio. As a private lessons teacher my goal is to give my students a solid foundation on the Bass and in Music. Whether you want to be the next Mozart or the next Van Halen, it is vital to have good technique and a solid grasp of chords, scales and rhythms. These fundamental skills will enable you to play any style of music. In my bass lessons I try to maintain a balance between fun and hard work. There is a lot to learn, but there's no reason it can't be fun too. We can go at whatever pace makes you feel comfortable. I believe that Music is good for both the soul and the mind. It is a universal phenomenon that transcends the boundaries of language. Such a powerful and special means of expression and communication deserves to be both preserved and enjoyed. Furthermore, Music is beneficial to all aspects of life. Being involved in Music teaches teamwork, self discipline, responsibility, respect, etc. I strongly believe that all children should be involved in music. Whether or not they grow up to become musicians does not matter. What matters is that Music can provide a wealth of benefits to ones life both in and out of school. |
